President’s Message
By Roy Hunter, Chapter President
Recently
I had the opportunity to attend the AGA National Professional Development
Conference in Chicago. This was not
only a great opportunity to attend many informative sessions on subjects
related to government accounting but also to meet other AGA members from across
the country. Many of these were also
Chapter Presidents or CEC members who were more than happy to exchange ideas on
how to better run an AGA Chapter. I
hope to utilize some of their wisdom before my tenure has ended.
The
theme of the PDC was “Managing Smarter for the Future” and this was very much
reflected in the sessions offered.
Almost all sessions were related to management, which forced me to
attend sessions unrelated to my chosen field of auditing. I was a little disappointed about this at
first; however I found many of the Management sessions to have much useful
information. Maybe it’s good to
occasionally
be forced out of your element.
All
of my activities while in Chicago were not business related. I took some time to enjoy some of the food
and music of the Taste of Chicago Festival while I was there. I spent one evening on the beach and another
at the Museum of Science & Industry.
I even spent a little time and a little more money shopping the
Magnificent Mile. I tried to keep that
to a minimum though.
On the last day of the PDC I had the honor of accepting our Gold
Chapter Award. In addition to this
award, the Central Kentucky Chapter was presented with a beautiful framed
certificate commemorating our twenty-fifth year as a chapter. I will bring this award to the August
members meeting for all to see.
Congratulations to all who have worked so hard to make these things
possible.
Meeting Notes of the Chapter Executive Committee
By Phil Nally, Chapter Secretary
The
Central Kentucky Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants held its
monthly Chapter Executive Committee meeting at Nema’s Restaurant on July 9,
2003, with nine members in attendance: Don Fields, Dan Flaherty, Mary Hudson,
Roy Hunter, Margaret Hurst, Phil Nally, Linda Sagraves, Amy Small, and Rick
Waddle.
The Program Committee was unable to
secure a speaker for the July 10 meeting.
Rick Waddle has been in contact with the candidates for State Auditor
and hopes to have them for the August and September meetings. The CEC offered suggestions for future
speakers.
President Roy Hunter noted that it is
time for the annual review of the chapter’s finances. Names were suggested and contact will be made with these
individuals to ask for their independent review.
The CEC agreed to conduct its monthly
meetings at various Frankfort restaurants.
The August CEC meeting will be at the Super Buffet on US 127.
Rick Waddle continues to make progress
for the planned August training event for members. The chapter hopes to offer 4 hours of CPE on the topic of state
budgeting. Rick is looking at locations
for this event.
As Past-president Cindy Upton was
unable to attend the Chicago PDC, Roy Hunter accepted the chapter’s Gold
Chapter Award on her behalf.
Roy also received an award at the
national PDC recognizing the chapter’s 25th year since becoming
chartered. The chapter was formed on
July 1, 1978.
The meeting adjourned with the
announcement that the next CEC meeting will be August 6 at the Super Buffet.
